Deadly Fruit

Author’s Summary: Princess Cassandra of Troy muses about apples.

Apples were a common fruit among the Greeks and the Trojans. Both countries ate them. Cassandra could see how the red color in apples was the same color as blood. Crisp and delicious did apples taste to her in her mouth when she devoured them. She enjoyed eating apples alongside bread, chunks of meat, and different other kinds of fruit to eat and fine wine to drink at meals. To end up hearing the sound of the crunch of the apple she ate under her teeth and feel the sweet stickiness of the apples on her fingers.  To get the juice from the apple to run down the sides of her mouth and her have to wipe the juice away with her hand. How Cassandra loved apples.

Eternally Helen of Troy

Author’s Summary: A daughter of Zeus and Leda and the sister of Castor and Pollux. Helen is the Queen of Sparta and she is then a princess of Troy. This is a second person perspective about the most beautiful woman in the world. This is mostly influenced by Amanda Elyot’s The Memoirs of Helen of Troy although I was also inspired by Caroline B. Cooney’s Goddess of Yesterday and Adele Geras’s Troy.

Cursed More Than Blessed

Cassandra was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy and the twin sister of Helenus. Her brown hair  had been kept in curls and she brown eyes and fair skin.  She was very beautiful, intelligent, charming, desirable, elegant, friendly, and gentle, but she was considered to be insane. Cassandra was described as “the second most beautiful woman in the world” and her beauty was even compared to that of Aphrodite and Helen of Troy. Apollo ended up falling in love with her and he gave her many gifts including the gift of prophecy, but when she rejected him and scorned his love for her he turned this gift into a curse. She would be able to see the future and be correct in her predictions, but nobody would ever believe a word she said. This Trojan princess foresaw the events of the Trojan War where at the end of it she was abducted and brutally raped by Ajax the Lesser when she sought refuge in the temple of Athena. She was taken as a concubine by King Agamemnon of Mycenae and she was murdered along with him and their twin sons Pelops and Teledamus by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus shortly after their arrival in Mycenae.
