Considering Apollo’s Plea

Written By: Katelyn Abbott

Author’s Summary: Apollo the Sun God pleads with Princess Cassandra of Troy to consider to accept him for who he is, care for him, and love him and become his lover.

----

A brilliant beauty are you, Cassandra, daughter of King Priam of Troy, with your brown curls the color of chestnuts, your brown eyes as dark as chocolate, and your skin as smooth and soft and white as ivory. You have been blessed with beauty, intelligence, charm, desirability, elegance, and a friendly and gentle nature by the gods. Child though you still are you are close to the beginning of womanhood. Do you not see how you make men desire you by your mere appearance in their presence? You enchant them for their mere privilege of gazing upon you fills their hearts with gladness for your face remains eternally in their memories. Fantasies of your beauty like snow in the dark forever plague their minds and get them full of longing for you. Many men—even gods themselves—would happily make you their own for you are an enigma that men long to possess for your rarity in the world.

Fate has been good to you. You are a princess of Troy. You were born to have the best of everything in life—fine food to eat and good wine to drink at your meals, beautiful robes of silk to dress yourself in, cosmetics and delicate vials of perfume to use, devoted servants to attend to your daily needs, and extravagant wrought jewelry of amber, gold, and precious stones to wear are at your disposal. Your city flourishes in power and prosperity and your dear family gains new members to it with each year that passes by. Priam favors you above the rest of your eleven sisters and he gives you luxuries and privileges that the rest of your sisters do not have. You have nearly everything a woman could desire in life. Would you not like to have even more if you could?

You could have the sun god give you the acceptance he has for who you are, the care he has for you, and the deep love he feels for you if you desire it. He would devote himself to you. Everything he has among his massive power and wealth from flowers, fruits, gorgeous robes, jewels, and wine to the gift of prophecy would be yours if you ask for it. Fine half-divine children would be given to you by him. How many maidens are fortunate enough to be the lover of a god especially one as handsome, intelligent, and charming as golden-haired and blue-eyed Apollo?

Will you not consider to give him your acceptance for who he is, your care for him, and your love for him to him in return for his for you and permit him to make you happy to belong to him?
